The FPAC Net is a group of 30 - 40 active FPAC Nodes plus a number of other ROSE based Nodes.


The FPAC Node application is based on the ROSE protocol and has been written for the Linux OS. Linux FPAC is an extension of the TNC based ROSE switch and the DOS FPAC switch. The User interface for FPAC Node has the look and feel of the NetRom Node. The FPAC Node acts just like the original ROSE switch and supports up to 10 ports.
Tom Multon wrote ROSE based upon the AX.25 protocol. AX.25 is X.25 modified for Amateur Radio use. The ROSE protocol uses the X.121 addressing scheme which allows fast and efficient packet routing with a very small over head (only three bytes).

The Original FPAC software was written for MS DOS. Linux takes that a step farther and allows us to create ports using a mixture of serial devices. The I/O device can be Ethernet, Wifi, USB, or even firewire.
FPAC includes a White Pages system which records the address of each node and user of the network. This information is distributed to other FPAC nodes in the network. This allows you to connect any known call sign without giving any node or routing information.
The FPAC Node also supports Flex Net and NetRom.

ROSE Addressing

X.121 addressing used by ROSE Networking is a 10 digit address that is made up of the station's DNIC, Digital Network Identification Code, and a 6 Digit Station code. The six digit portion is usually self defined. In the US it is made up from the Sysop's phone number or local Area Code + Station Code.

Example :
My phone # is (352) 726-**** and the DNIC for the United States is 3100.
My X.121 (ROSE) address is 3100352726.

You may use any six digit code as long as it is unique with the added DNIC.
Check the ROSE address Dbase for addresses that have been registered.
